Dr. Mark Sowards
A little about me...
I was raised in a small ranching community in the San Luis Valley in Southern Colorado and as a Teenager graduated from Centauri High School. I attended Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado, where I graduated with a BS in Mathematics and Chemistry.
I was accepted into the Pharmacy Program at the University of Colorado in Boulder and graduated with a B.Ph. I actively practiced Pharmacy full time for 5 years when I met an Oral Surgeon in Denver, Colorado who invited me into his office to observe Dental Surgery. I became interested in Dentistry and returned to college full time at the University of Denver to take Pre-Dental course work and the DAT Test.
I attended Dental School at the University of Iowa, Iowa City and graduated with a DDS. I practiced General Dentistry for 4 years with the United Stated Public Health Service on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Winslow-Holbrook and Window Rock-Fort Defiance areas. I soon learned that I did not enjoy the variety that General Dentistry offered where one has to be relatively good at everything. Instead, I felt I would rather become very good in one area in Dentistry and be the best that I can be.
I attended the University of West Virginia in Morgantown, where I specialized in Orthodontics. I soon discovered that Orthodontics was the dental love of my life and have strived ever since to stay current with the latest technology and techniques as well as constantly striving to be the best that I can be. In this way, I feel that patients will receive the very best treatment that I can offer while accomplishing their chief concerns.
Our family moved from Morgantown, West Virginia to Yuma, Arizona almost 20 years ago where we truly enjoy the more rural and slightly slower-paced lifestyle. Yuma has been a great place to raise our family and develop lasting professional and social friendships. We have no regrets.
